Best Practices - Best practices

A first estimate of € 2 million in currency savings potential that the City of Padua can get annually through the implementation of a series of measures relating to public lighting systems (saving € 830,000), the traffic lights (saving amounted to € 130,000), buildings owned by the city (saving € 980,000), the fleet of vehicles (saving of 20,000 €) and the renewal of contracts for the supply of electricity on the open market (savings of 40,000 €). These figures
cost savings was made possible thanks to a design study which involved a working group for 8 months and initiating the implementation of interventions. The study, sponsored and coordinated by the Department for Environment, involved technical departments of the Municipality of Padua and the Society for Energy Technology Centre Ltd. Trento.
The work consists of identifying interventions to increase energy energy of the City and the definition of the potential savings achievable by the individual interventions. The areas of action aimed at four municipally owned macro: *
public lighting, traffic lights
*;
* built heritage;
* fleet.
All actions fall within three main "directions" of intervention, from which derives the proper combination of achieving the objectives: the improvement of the supply contract for electricity, improving the quality of its facilities and their management system .
The process of liberalizing the energy market provides an important first opportunity for the achievement of substantial economic benefits in procurement and management of energy resources. For this initial step, already being completed, consisted of an economic analysis with the purpose of verifying the effectiveness of the current contract for the supply of electricity and to identify the pool of people eligible to bargain for 'purchase of electricity on the open market. This phase of work ended with the choice of new supplier, through the collection and analysis of various financial offers for the supply of energy: the new contract terms provide an annual saving of more than 40,000 €.
E ' evident, also, such as improving the efficiency of any system depends on both its quality and usage patterns by users. For this methodology to approach the second phase of work can be summarized as follows: *
analysis of the status quo in order to acquire all data for the current annual energy consumption and related costs of the City of Padua
* development of appropriate consumption indicators, in order to identify possible inefficiencies, covering both technical aspects and management of those facilities;
* definition of assistance to the municipal administration to provide the operational guidelines for the reduction consumption;
* estimated costs and savings arising from the implementation of specific interventions in order to assess the turnaround times and ensure its viability;
* Identification of environmental benefits, expressed in terms of avoided emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.
