Windstalk reversed: the non-turbine wind farm
Windstalk consists of 1203 "do not disturb" piles of carbon fiber reinforced resin, 55 meters high and anchored to a cylindrical structure whose radius is from 10 to 20 meters. Each pole has a diameter 30 cm at the base which decreases progressively towards the tip, which measures just 5 cm. The wind farm thus formed is designed for Masdar City, the futuristic district with zero emissions and zero waste in Abu Dhabi.
The principle upon which the swing is Windstalk: each post contains a stack of piezoelectric ceramic discs, which are "distorted" by the pull of a cord in them, who will be directly proportional to the force of the wind. In practice, the modules are independent of each other should swinging like grass in the wind, so the LED light on top that will increase or decrease in intensity depending on the amount of energy produced.
At the base of each pole, the designers have thought Atelier DNA also accommodate an electric turbine, whose motion will be generated from flowing downward or upward of rainwater. It is, in effect, a system to conserve energy: the motion of the pole move a mass of water from the lower chamber to a higher and finished the wind, the pole straight back and the water flows to the lower chamber, moving the turbine.
